UNDP Yemen/UNIC: UNDP Yemen’s Youth Leadership Programme
Marginalized people in #Taizz live in poverty and without access to basic necessities.
They often live in unsafe houses.
“I’m currently displaced in Al-Dhabab, from Hadran area, with no place to call home. We tried to put a tent, and I lived in it with my children and younger brothers.” Said Nael Yahya – a displaced citizen.
“I took a walk with some friends in Wadi Al-Dhabab and when it started to rain, we sought shelter in the car. That’s when I saw some marginalized people in a state of panic and fear while their humble homes flooded. The whole scene remained in my memory.” Said Hussein Al-Humaidi – Youth Activist
To help alleviate their struggle, Hussein began a cash-for-work initiative.
“When I learned about this programme, I felt it was my chance to fulfill my societal obligation towards them. The Youth Leadership Programmes aims to build community leaders, in which I received a month-long training covering various topics, such as communication, identifying community needs and conflict analysis, as well as skills in writing project proposals and fundraising.” Said Hussein Al-Humaidi – Youth Activist
UNDP Yemen’s Youth Leadership Programme aims to empower change-makers and support young men and women to design and implement innovative, impactful, and sustainable development solutions.
The programme builds the region’s most dynamic network, working at the intersection of youth, innovation, and sustainable development.
“They checked the area and found many damaged houses. They repaired damaged roofs and renovated houses promptly within a month.” Said Ameen Al-Dhaba – Local Resident
The initiative empowered Nael Yahya, a local man, to build his own home.
He is now living in a safe and comfortable home.
“I am very grateful to Hussein for his help. I build this home thanks to God and the support I received.” Said Nael Yahya – a displaced citizen.
