UN-Habitat Yemen: Rehabilitation of Damaged Houses and Upgrading Stormwater Facilities in Yemen
Response to the Socio-Economic Impact of Flash Flooding through Rehabilitation of Damaged Houses and Upgrading Stormwater Facilities in #Aden and Al-Hawtah in #yemen. Flash floods in #yemen pose a significant threat to the nation's infrastructure, the livelihoods of vulnerable families, and their most valued assets. The foremost of these assets for many households is their home, often representing their largest fixed expenditure, implying the importance of secure homes in economic prosperity and livelihoods. Economic challenges and daily needs leave many unable to repair flood damages, as exemplified by Jamila, who said "Without their help, I wouldn't have been able to reconstruct my house, even if I dedicated my entire life to it.". The UN-Habitat project, funded by Government of Japan, contributed to mitigating the socio-economic repercussions of flash flooding among the most vulnerable communities by rehabilitating 300 damaged houses, improving 3 storm water facilities, and providing vocational training while raising disaster awareness and creating 4212 jobs. It has assisted 10,935 individuals in Aden and Al-Hawtah.
