#Yemen produces some of the best and purest honey in the world.
The country’s tradition of beekeeping goes back to the 10th century.
The best quality honey comes from the flowers of the Sidr and Elb trees.
The different varieties of Yemeni honey are valued in the country and beyond.
Each type has its unique color, fragrance, texture, and taste.
But beekeeping in Yemen has been affected by the conflict in the country and the number of beekeepers has decreased.
A FAO, project with funding from the World Bank, is helping beekeepers in Yemen restore and enhance their livelihoods.
Salim, one of the many beekeepers who lost their beehives during the conflict, was able to produce honey again thanks to FAO’s support.
Around 700 families were trained in beekeeping and apiculture activities, and received beehives and honey production equipment.
